Emotionally Able

Emotionally Able is a small team of teachers and educational psychologists who provide consultancy and training in schools for children with severe and complex learning disabilities. Our work focusses exclusively on these children’s emotional well-being and mental health.

We have extensive experience of working with children with severe and complex difficulties, their parents and carers, their teachers, and multi-agency services. We have held posts as senior leaders in health, education, and the voluntary sector.

We have worked together for over 10 years. We contributed modules to the government funded Training Resources for Special Education in the 21st Century (Specialist Schools and Academies Trust and Real Group). Most recently we have published Supporting the Emotional Well-Being of Children and Young People with Learning Disabilities: A Whole School Approach (2020) a highly practical resource for supporting the emotional well-being and mental health of children with severe and complex learning disabilities. Our experience and the specialist material from our book is central to our training for Designated Mental Health Leads in Special Schools.
