Course preparation
All course materials are delivered digitally. This means you will need to bring a device or download the materials before coming on the course.
Before the course you are required to complete a personal skills audit and also a setting audit. These are both available online through mentalhealthlead.com. If a colleague is also completing a course with us, then complete the setting audit in tandem.

Course Instructors

Nicola Nicola Trainer

Nicola Pereira – Educational Psychologist, Nicola is registered with the professional body HCPC, allowing her to practice as an applied psychologist and she is registered with the HPCSA (Health Professions Council of South Africa). Nicola has three years’ experience as an educational psychologist and over twenty years’ experience within education as a counsellor and secondary school teacher in South Africa. She has recently moved to the United Kingdom to work as an Educational Psychologist with EPIC – Educational Psychology and Wellbeing Services. Nicola has key interests in the mental wellbeing of children, relationships and family systems, learning difficulties, working memory, gender identity and diversity as well as social processing. Nicola is currently a PhD candidate at the University of Johannesburg, where she is researching on the following topic: ‘Policy considerations in creating inclusive education for transgender learners in secondary schoolings.’

Paula Hopkins Paula Hopkins Trainer

Dr Paula Hopkins C.Psychol. – Senior Educational Psychologist A Chartered Psychologist with the British Psychological Society and a full member of the Division of Educational and Child Psychology. Paula is registered with the professional body HCPC, allowing her to practice as an applied psychologist. Paula has nineteen years’ experience as an educational psychologist and has worked as a Senior Practitioner Educational Psychologist with Leicestershire County Council and as an EP with Gloucestershire County Council before establishing EPIC in 2015. Paula is the service lead and director of EPIC and has key interests in children’s mental health (particularly anxiety), attachment and relationships, working memory and social processing. Paula has published research articles on group work and nurturing classrooms and is hoping to publish future articles from her doctoral research into class teachers’ perceptions and approaches to children’s anxiety.
